Moving on from secondary school
There's a lot to think about when leaving school - going to university or polytech, getting started in a job, or doing an apprenticeship are just some of the options. Here are some websites and resources that can help with the decision making.
Help deciding what to do after secondary school
Careers NZ is your and your child's "go-to" place for help in deciding the next steps after secondary school. They can help with career ideas, study and further education options, writing a CV and job hunting.
Once your child has some ideas about what they want to do you can use the Careers NZ course database to find out about providers near you. The database includes information about apprenticeships and workplace training.
You can also phone Careers NZ toll free on 0800 222 733.
The Vocational Pathways website (part of the Youth Guarantees initiative) has tools to help your child understand how different NCEA choices will help them get to where they want to go in the future, and make a plan to get there.
Tertiary Education Commission
If you and your child are curious about how their choices will affect how much they might earn in the future, check out the useful information provided by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
